About Sebastopol Teen Club

 MISSION

To provide safe, fun and productive programming where teens from the greater Sebastopol area engage, connect and discover their true potential.

VISION

To become a teen club where groups that offer teen-oriented programs coordinate and collaborate to create optimal scheduling, quality and cohesion as we support area teens to engage, connect and discover.

OUR HISTORY

In the winter of 2018, a group of teens came to the City Council and expressed their need for afterschool activities. Many of them face 4-6 hours of unstructured time between the release of school and when their parents can come pick them up after work. They want lightly structured, creative and social alternatives to watching movies or playing video games at a friend's house.

The Teen Collaborative

The City Council asked the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center to create a plan to address this need, and thus the Teen Collaborative was born, comprised of:

  • Sebastopol Community Cultural Center

  • Rosalie Abbott, Young Adult Librarian, Sebastopol Regional Library

  • Tasha Beauchamp, Co-Chair, Cittaslow Sebastopol

The Teen Collaborative started meeting in March, researching successful programs across the nation, as well as here in Sonoma County. Santa Rosa’s CHOPS program is an award winning model. However they have a large endowment and were able to create a brick-and-mortar facility. A centralized building is not possible in our town, but we do have a strong community filled with talented caring people. From that basis grew a vision for a "distributed" Teen Club, where activities were provided by vetted and trained adult mentor/facilitators at existing non-profit and for-profit organizations around Sebastopol.
